Jane Lohr, 94
Jane Bridgman Lohr, 94, of Mystic, Conn., went home to God on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017.
Born May 3, 1923, in Scarsdale, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late John Burrell and Flora (Holt) Bridgman. She graduated from Scarsdale High School in 1941, and a short time later joined the Women’s Army Corps (WACS) to serve during World War II.
After her discharge as a Sergeant from the WACS, she attended the Paine Hall Medical School to further her education and became a certified medical assistant. In addition, she attended the Dalcroze School of Music, taking a variety of music courses. She and her former husband, Franklyn Lohr Jr., raised two sons in Katonah, N.Y, and spent their summers on Block Island.
Later in life, Jane went back to school and graduated from Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y. She began volunteering at St. Luke’s Hospital in New York City and was promoted to a fulltime position as the Patient Representative Coordinator. After retiring from the hospital, she moved to Block Island, where she obtained her real estate license and became an agent for Sullivan Real Estate. Jane also ran her own bed and breakfast at her home on Block Island, called Pond View. She was very active in the Block Island community and served as board President of The Block Island Medical Center. A parishioner of The Harbor Baptist Church on Block Island, she continued her love of music by singing and often soloed in the Ecumenical Choir.
She moved to Mystic, Conn., in 2006 and was an active member of the Stone Ridge Retirement Community as a representative of the Welcome Committee and sang in the Stone Ridge choral group.
The family would like to thank Lorette Pierre for the wonderful care and companionship she provided to “Miss Jane” over the past 12 months. Our mother is survived by her sister Peggy Jamison; her sons, Franklyn H. Lohr, III and Randall J. Lohr; her daughters-in-law Grace Lohr and Jamie Lohr; grandchildren Franklyn IV and Philip Lohr, Dana (Lohr) and Eric Hambridge, Kerrie (Lohr) and Alex King, and her great-granddaughter Natalie Hambridge.
A memorial service will be held at the St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Groton, Conn., after the first of the year. A burial service will be held in the spring at The Harbor Church and cemetery on Block Island. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Block Island Medical Center, Box 919, Block Island, R.I. 02807.
