Ed. note: Every summer, the folks at Island Bound Bookstore ask their younger customers to review their favorite books. Here’s the summer 2020 installment.

Over the summer I read “The Prince and the Dressmaker” by Jen Wang. I recommend this book to anyone who likes dramas and anyone who has read “Stargazing,” which was written by the same author. One reason you might like this book is how much suspense there is in each page. You never know what’s going to happen next, which is partly why this book is so exciting. A second reason is that it’s a graphic novel and has really cool pictures. Finally, some parts are kind of funny, so anyone who likes dramatic, funny graphic novels I recommend “The Prince and the Dressmaker.” — Teagan Conlon, age 10

Over the summer I read “Dork Diaries: Tales From a Not So Graceful Ice Princess.” I liked this book and recommend it to girls and people who like to ice skate. The book had good detail. My favorite character is Brinna, Nicky’s little sister. She is so funny. In this book Nicky finds out that Brandon, her crush, they own an dog adoption center and his dad broke his leg so they might have to move because nobody can afford to pay the guy who would take care of the dogs so they have to shut down. But Nicky, Chloe and Zoey her friends sign up to raise money for the dog adoption center to stay open and Nicky wins the best prize. Read this book to find out what happens next.— Molly True, age 10, 5th grade

“Diary of an Awesome Friendly Kid” by Jeff Kenney. I liked how the author told us different parts of Rowley’s life. I liked all the jokes. I liked how he put the secret of every chapter in the title of that chapter. It was very funny. — George Messier III, age 9

I have been reading the Dogman book series written by Dav Pilkey. I love the series because it’s very funny and the illustrations are some of my favorites and he also created Captain Underpants. I just finished reading “Dogman and Cat Kid.” I liked it because although the cat’s dad wants him to be a villain he has different ideas and he wants to be a hero like Dogman. — Anabelle Duvall, 1st grade

“Ivy and Bean.” When Bean hides behind a bush, I liked the part when Bean yells, “What the heck are you doing from inside the bush?” I also like the part when Bean spooks Ivy. I love the part when Bean and Ivy make friends. I really love this book! — Lane Matis, age 8

“ Captain Underpants and the Tyrannical Retaliation of the Turbo Toilet 2000.” I like this book because when Marvin makes his time machine he tracks it to so many places, and I also like this book because when George and Herold go in Melvin’s time machine, they travel to yesterday and do their homework. — Jesse Blanke, age 6

I read “The Maze of Bones (The 39 Clues)” by Rick Riordan. It was really good and I will try to read the whole series. I like it because they have to find clues to find the treasure. I also like all the characters because they are funny and have good personalities. — Rocco Kasabula, age 11
