Lady Hurricanes end season at number one

The Girls Varsity Volleyball team finished the season as the first seed in Division 3 and now it’s off to the playoffs. With the big win over St. Raphael’s on Saturday, Nov. 2 and a quick win over Davies Career Tech Institute on Sunday, Nov. 3, the Lady Hurricanes boosted their record to 16-1, which put them in first place at the end of the regular season.

In the St. Ray’s game, Moira O’Neill had four kills, 10 assists and five digs; Sophie Mott had three aces, eight kills, one block, three assists and five assists; Charlotte Hall had two aces, one kill, four blocks; Alison Pineda had two kills, one dig; Amira Wilson had three aces, two kills, one block and one dig; Lucy Rigby-Leather had four digs; Michaela Brown-Padien had two aces, one kill, three digs; Savannah Brown had one ace, and a whopping 24 digs.

Davies Tech game: Lucy Rigby-Leather, starting as the setter, with eight aces, three kills, 12 assists and two digs; Michaela Brown-Padien had eight aces, two kills and two digs; Sophie Mott had six aces, five kills, two assists and four digs; Charlotte Hall had six aces, four kills and one assist; Alison Pineda had one kill; Amira Wilson had one ace, three kills and one dig; and Stella Gockenbach had one ace and one assist.

However, this is not the end of the yellow brick road for the Hurricanes. Their position as first seed gets them a bye in the quarter final round. The winner of Rogers vs. Narragansett on Nov. 8 will face the Lady Hurricanes at Cranston East on Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in a semi final match to determine who will go to the state finals.

State finals will be held three days later on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Rhode Island College.

The state banquet will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at Crowne Plaza Hotel in West Warwick. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the event starts at 6:30 p.m. Anyone may attend. The banquet will consist of an awards presentation for all divisions/all state honors, and a meatball dinner.
