Last Chance for ice cream!
The Mary D. Fund is teaming up with the Block Island Rescue Squad and The Ice Cream Place to “provide a sweet treat to anyone getting vaccinated on Block Island,” says Marguerite Donnelly.
Tracy Fredericks of the Rescue Squad will offer a gift certificate to those receiving the vaccine at the weekly clinic at the Fire Barn. Vaccine clinics take place every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those wishing to get a vaccine should schedule an appointment through the Department of Health website vaccinateri.org.
Anita Gonsalves, owner of The Ice Cream Place says there have been quite a few certificates redeemed since the start of the program a couple weeks
ago. Each certificate is good for a small scoop of ice cream, in a bowl or on a cone. She plans to stay open until at least September 25.
“It’s a Mary D. Fund community outreach. We cover all the costs,” says Donnelly, with some of the funds coming from the annual Mary D. Ball that was held in August. Other community outreach programs this year have included partnering with the Block Island School Student Council to deliver face masks to island businesses and individuals. In the fall, the fund will again collaborate with the school for a bike helmet safety program.
