Lee DeVoll, 86
Betty “Lee” (Snyder) DeVoll of Chester, Conn., and Block Island, R.I., died on Nov. 8, 2016, in Holland, Mich., at age 86. She was born on March 1, 1930, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Elizabeth Snyder and Fredrick Snyder, M.D. She graduated from Wells College in 1952. While at college, she met the love of her life, Willys D. DeVoll Sr., to whom she was married for 63 years, until his death in 2015. She and Will raised their family in Kinnelon, N.J. They subsequently lived in St. Louis, Missouri; for 31 years in Westport, Conn., and in Chester, Conn.
She was a devoted and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and aunt. She is survived by her children, Diane DeVoll VanderMeer, M.D. and husband Peter J. VanderMeer, M.D. of West Olive, Michigan, and David DeVoll of Westport, Conn.; grandchildren Julia, Karen, and Brian VanderMeer, Willlys and Katie DeVoll. Lee was an active volunteer, supporting her community, and her children and grandchildren’s schools and their activities. She spent many years volunteering with the food pantry at Christian Community Action in Norwalk, Conn. Lee dearly loved spending time with her family and friends, her many dogs, gardening, knitting, cooking, traveling, and she treasured time spent at her house on Block Island, R.I.
A private family gathering will be held on Block Island.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Best Friends Animal Society, Kanab, Utah.
