To the Editor:
The Block Island Historical Society would like to send a special thanks to all the people who helped make the fundraiser for the Double Ender Project on Nov. 30 a great success. The restoration of the full-size replica Unity will be a great educational tool for interpreting the unique maritime heritage of Block Island. Without the support of the community the project would not be possible.
Thank you to the Gaffett family and the staff at the Old Island Pub for providing a venue for us to launch the fundraising campaign. Thank you to John Whitaker and Steven Lighty for providing the music for the event. Your music kept the crowd entertained and set a wonderful tone for the evening.
Thank you to all the businesses and individuals who donated items for the raffle and silent auction and a very special thanks to the Block Island Yacht Club for its very generous donation of $1,000.
Overall the event raised $2,600, which put us past the halfway mark to our total goal of $10,000. If anyone would like to know more about the project, visit our fundraising page at www.gofundme.com/46da94 or e-mail email@example.com. Tax free donation checks may also be mailed to the Block Island Historical Society, Box 79, Block Island, R.I. 02807 with memo: “Unity.”
