To the Editor:
Are the readers of The Block Island Times curious about tourist visitation and spending on Block Island this past season?
If so, we invite one and all to the Annual Meeting of the Block Island Tourism Council on Tuesday, September 26th. Complimentary appetizers and cash bar start at 4:30 p.m. and the meeting kicks off at 5 p.m. at The Spring House Hotel.
I have been researching any information I can get my hands on to try and get a complete picture of visitation and will be giving a short 20 minute presentation on the Tourism Council’s efforts and what I have learned from all the statistics I have gathered.
After that we have a presentation from researchers from URI who are studying the effects of the Wind Farm on tourism. There is surprisingly little research on this subject and it is expected that the results of these studies will be integral in other communities and states that are looking at offshore wind in the future.
We will hear a presentation on exactly what they are looking at and some preliminary findings, and there will be time for discussion and questions. There will be an opportunity to have your opinion heard, and possibly included in the study, on how the Wind Farm has impacted Block Island socially.
We hope you will join us on Tuesday!
