The gift of life

To the Editor:

The first blood drive of 2018 will be held at Harbor Baptist Church on Thursday, Jan. 4 from 1 to 5 p.m. Let’s all see if we can make a New Year’s resolution to make all five blood drives that will be held this year. This is the one drive at which all donors receive a pound of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee as a gift. Here are some things to consider:

- No upper age cut off.

- Anyone age 17 and older can give.

- Donors between age 16 and 17 can give with parents’ permission. Permission forms are available at the school.

- Bring driver’s license or other photo ID.

- For questions of eligibility, call 453-8307.

Blood is critically needed. About 32,000 pints are needed each day in the U.S., and 4.5 million people would die each year without transfusions. The around-the-clock need is critical.

A Happy New Year to you from Rhode Island Blood Center.
