Library staff honored
For the past three years, the Block Island Residents Association has named a person or persons who have contributed to the quality of life on the island.
This year, resident Linda Spak nominated the staff of the Island Free Library.
“During a very difficult year, these dedicated people came to the rescue by providing programming for all age groups. From delivering books and surprise packages to the clients at Helping Hands Food Pantry, reading remotely to adults every day, children’s wonderful and engaging music program and craft projects to then slowing and carefully opening up more services while always keeping the staff and community’s safety the top priority, they have been stars,” Spak wrote in her nomination to BIRA. “These are just a small example of their dedication and hard work.”
Spak’s nomination was voted on and approved by the members of BIRA and the award was presented to the staff of the library by outgoing BIRA President Bill Penn. Spak’s nomination was read by Treasurer Donna Corey.
Previous Island Treasure Awards have been awarded to Edie Blane, the creators of the Block Island Bulletin Board, and Gary and Bonny Ryan.
