Liz Doherty paintings at Spring Street Gallery
Elizabeth Doherty’s first exhibition, “Meditations on Color,” will feature a collection of mixed media and textile work of abstracted landscapes and hidden textures, inspired by the natural and ephemeral surroundings found on Block Island. The opening reception is Saturday, July 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Spring Street Gallery.
Doherty’s work focuses on the important role color plays in our everyday lives and the cyclical nature that never stops, from muted tones in the winter to the vibrant sunsets of summer. Rather than recreating an exact landscape, Doherty’s work looks to capture and create moments of intense color to savor over again and again.
The exhibition will feature mixed media drawings, paintings, and a small sampling of handmade textiles and clothing featured at Doherty’s shop in town, Traveling Seamstress.
“Meditations on Color” will be on display from Friday, July 12 through Thursday, July 25. Opening reception 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 13.
The Spring Street Gallery is located at 105 Spring Street, open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
