Lorraine Blansfield, 91
Lorraine L. Blansfield, 91, of 1 Cedar Crest Drive, Danbury, Conn., passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019. She was the wife of the late Henry N. Blansfield, MD. A nearly lifelong resident of Danbury, Lorraine was born in Danbury Hospital on Oct. 21, 1927. The daughter of the late Jeremiah and Mary (Tomaino) Lombardi, Sr., she was a graduate of St. Joseph’s School and a devoted member of its parish community throughout her lifetime, as well as a graduate and an alumnus of Danbury High School, Class of 1945. She received a B.B., R.N. degree at the University of Connecticut School of Nursing, then served as Head Nurse in the surgical department of the Yale-New Haven Hospital from 1950 to 1952, where she met her soon-to-be husband who was in residency training there.
Lorraine was also a lifelong summer visitor to Block Island, R.I., where she was an active member and lector at St. Andrew Church. In addition to her loving family, Lorraine had many dear friends. She was delighted by and appreciated the love and support they showed to her, especially during Henry’s later years, and after his passing.
Lorraine is survived by her four children: James J. of Danbury; Catherine G. of Danbury; David R. of Westport; and Jane Finch of Durham, N.C. Six grandchildren: Allison and Molly Blansfield, Laura and David Andrew, and Jonathan and Isabella Blansfield; one great-granddaughter, Hazel Sterling Blansfield; and two step-granddaughters, Ali Nininger-Finch and Catherine Tuttle, and Sara Finch, and step-great grandson Jackson Tuttle by her brother Jeremiah F. Lombardi, Jr. of Danbury; and sister-in-law Mary Flo Cleaver of Bristol, Conn.
