New Town Councilors look forward to getting to work
The Block Island Times reached out to First Warden-elect Andre Boudreau, Second Warden-elect Sven Risom, and councilors-at-large Martha Ball, Mark Emmanuelle, and Keith Stover for their reactions to the election and what’s next for the Town Of New Shoreham.
I am heartened by the turnout, and I am deeply humbled by the support of those who have the confidence in me to lead the next Town Council. I look forward to working collaboratively with the incoming Town Council, our new Town Manager, and the entire community to affect positive change, as well as work out our issues together for the betterment of our future.
I am looking forward to the next few years and want to thank everyone who voted for me to represent them and support the island — I take the responsibility very seriously. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ken for his years of service, hard work and leadership. I learned a lot from him and truly appreciate the accomplishments and battles he has worked through. With that said, I am really looking forward to working with André and to have Keith and Mark on the Town Council — it will be a great council. While there are some big initiatives underway (broadband, public safety, etc.), we also need to prioritize and tackle all of the issues so that Block Island remains the great place that we all love.
I look forward to working with this group. I think we have some diversity, and we hope to see more younger people two years from now on the council. But I think this is going to be a good, solid group with lots of perspective, viewpoints, and I hope everyone can be respectful. I thank Ken for his years of tireless and selfless service to the town. And thank Chris for his hard and thorough work on the council. I welcome Keith and Mark, and look forward to continuing working with André and Sven.
I am very pleased with the outcome. I left the Town Council four years ago, very frustrated because of the lack of courage with my colleagues. I feel confident, with this new lineup, that I can address unfinished business and remedy problems. If we don’t, then shame on us. My priority will always be what’s best for Block Island, not just a select few.
I’m so grateful to the community for giving me a chance. I’m excited to get to work — there’s a lot to do. I think we should all stop for a second and thank Ken Lacoste and Chris Willi, who have done so much for our town, and have been so engaged and so conscientious as we’ve navigated through the Covid-19 crisis. They deserve our thanks.
