Obituary: Ann Cunningham
Ann C. Cunningham, 76, of Sunset Hill, Block Island, died on Dec. 21 at Westerly Hospital after an illness.
She was born in Providence on May 24, 1936, a daughter of the late Fayette and Helen (Dickinson) Chittenden.
Ms. Cunningham was senior scientist at Pfizer Corporation in Groton, Conn., for 16 years until her retirement in 1998.
She had been a frequent visitor to Block Island since the 1950s and became a full-time island resident in 1998. She loved Block Island and the people of Block Island, her daughter Lynne P. Cunningham said.
She was a former commissioner of the Block Island Water Department, and a participant in the Lunch Bunch and Soup Group programs.
She is survived by Lynne and by two sons: Paul Cunningham of Block Island, and Edward "Ted" Cunningham of South Kingstown; by two grandchildren; and by a sister, Jane Hopkins of Naples, Fla.
Services and interment on Block Island will be held at a date to be determined.
Contributions in her memory to the Block Island Medical Center or the Block Island Rescue Squad would be appreciated.
