Operating at full capacity
On a cold, mid-30s winter’s day, all five of the 30-megawatt Block Island Wind Farm's turbines were generating offshore wind energy on Monday, Feb. 6. This video was captured by The Block Island Times from the bluffs of the Southeast Lighthouse.
Last week, Deepwater Wind, employed the lift-boat Lacie Eymard to perform repairs to turbine number two, which had been rendered inoperable since Dec. 2 due to damage incurred from a drill bit that was mistakenly left inside its generator component during manufacturing.
The wind farm, which is supplying power to the mainland grid, is supposed to begin powering Block Island some time this spring.
