Fri, 08/21/2015 - 7:30am

Finn’s famous bluefish paté, accompanied by an Island Mary, were Finn’s excellent appetizer and drink offering on a sunny, warm August day. The paté is a combination of bluefish, onion, cream cheese, capers and dill and is so good that many visitors can’t leave the island without it. And, Island Mary is an interesting two-fer: a Bloody Mary with three shrimp around the rim of the glass.

Finn’s was opened in the 1950s by a member of the Howarth family and has been owned and operated by Debbie and Fred Howarth since the 1970s. They are proud of their restaurant and adjacent fish market and certainly have reason to be. Fresh seafood is available daily in both the restaurant and the fish market; Finn’s has the only live lobster tanks on the island — visitors are welcome to stop by to see the lobsters as well as the arrival of whole swordfish, dressed and ready to be sold; and there are two outside eating areas overlooking Old Harbor and the ferry docks, as well as the cozy, inside restaurant.

Dave Robbins, the Executive Chef, has been at Finn’s for over 25 years and lives year-round on the island, and many of the staff have each been at Finn’s for more than 20 years.
