Painted Rock mystery solved
This was sent in by readers Lauren and Mark Tkacs after we had pubished a few pictures of the images people had put on Painted Rock:
I thought you might like to put a face to the rock. We saw in The Block Island Times that our “Arriving Nov. 2016” was featured! We painted it to the announce the upcoming arrival of our baby.
My husband Mark and I have quite the Block Island story. We have been painting the rock for years, including some of our biggest milestones together (engagement, marriage, and now baby).
Mark and I met at the Neptune House when we were in grade school. Both of our families are owners at Neptune. We “lived” across the hall from each other one week every summer.
After years of friendship, we started dating and then Mark proposed at the Southeast Lighthouse in 2011 and, as they say, the rest is history. We were married in 2012 in Newport. Because a Block Island wedding wasn’t in the cards for us, we decked our wedding out in as many Block Island-related touches that we could. Our signature cocktail was “The Block Islander.” Rather than use table numbers, we named each table after a favorite place on-island. Our cocktail napkins read “Block Island Soulmates,” and the list goes on. We also did our engagement photo shoot on island which we turned into our guest book.
We just wanted to say thank you for printing a photo of our baby announcement in the paper. It’s so special to have this to remember this time in our lives. We also thought you might like to put a face to the rock and hear our story.
We are looking forward to bringing out the fifth generation Tkacs to the island in 2017.
