Dear Town Council Members, Chief Moynihan, and Town Manager Maryanne Crawford; Dr. Warcup, Alison Warfel & Susan Stover; Members of the Police Advisory Committee, and the Honorable Peter Alviti, Director, Rhode Island DOT:
Please find, attached, the findings of a preliminary traffic study by Nelson/ Nygaard commissioned by RespectBI last summer.
The attached report gives a snapshot of the dilemma Block Island faces: The design of the island’s roadways does not match the way they are currently used. The report strongly advises more comprehensive traffic data collection and a community-based design/solutions process.
RespectBI hopes the town and other invested parties will carefully review and reflect upon this report, and consider planning and budgeting for the report’s “Recommended Next Steps,” most importantly further data analysis and a systematic stakeholder review process of potential modifications to the unsafe, congested roadways residents and tourists alike rely on.
Thank You,
RespectBI’s Traffic Study Committee,
Sarah Bacon, Scott Oran, Hope Reeves, Everett Shorey
