09/19/09 - The R.I. Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC) Ocean Special Area Management Plan (SAMP) subcommittee will hold an informational meeting at Block Island Town Hall at 11 a.m., Monday, September 21 to provide an opportunity to update the community regarding progress on the SAMP.

The CRMC is offering this meeting to ensure that island residents and decision makers are able to fully access the SAMP process, similar to other Rhode Island communities. Also, Block Island has a large stake in the planning process, as its surrounding waters are being considered as a potential site for testing a small wind farm as a renewable energy pilot project.

Chairman Michael Tikoian and executive director Grover Fugate will be on hand for the meeting.

Contact Laura Ricketson-Dwyer at CRMC (401) 783-7886 or lricketson@crmc.ri.gov with any questions about the meeting.

In addition, information about the SAMP project can be accessed at the CRMC web site: http//www.crmc.ri.gov.
