A season of giving
Block Island has experienced a remarkable season of events designed to raise funds not only for our local institutions, but for individuals, as well. The season began with an island-wide party for the Murphy family, and continued through with successful events and fundraisers for the Block Island Historical Society, the Double Ender Committee, the Medical Center, ConserFest, The Mary D. Ball, and the Great Salt Pond Swim.
On Friday, Aug. 3, the Block Island Race Week 2018 Committee, through the Block Island Yacht Club and the Duck Island Yacht Club, continued this theme by making a donation to the Block Island Volunteer Fire/Rescue in the amount of $2,500. The funds were raised during the recent inaugural Block Island Race Week.
These monies raised go toward supporting the most essential services and support mechanisms on the island. Without our fire and rescue volunteers, without the Medical Center, without our cultural, social support, and conservation institutions, Block Island simply would not be the place it is today. Without the public’s generous support, these institutions could not survive, and the level of support has shown that the appreciation for what these organizations, and the people who staff them, do has not gone unappreciated.
