A global protest designed to highlight the challenges posed by climate change reached the shores of Block Island on Friday, March 15. The march, in which about 20 students and four teachers participated, was held at the Statue of Rebbeca. The march was inspired by Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, who is 16 and has been speaking out about climate change.

The Block Island School students walked down High Street and congregated at the Statue of Rebecca, where they stood for a few minutes holding signs and acknowledged the honking horns of a few passing cars.

The local march was organized by sisters Abby and Samantha Hester. — Lars Trodson
