Three artists show new art at Spring Street Gallery
Three artists — Cynthia DiDonato, Elinor C. Thompson and Susan Klas Wright — will be exhibiting at Spring Street Gallery in their new show “I Left My Heart on Block Island,” which opens Saturday, Aug. 24 with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m.
All three Rhode Island artists are a part a plein-air group called Painting Around that makes a trip to Block Island every year to draw inspiration from the island and its surrounding waters. It was during their visit that the idea of showing together at Spring Street Gallery was sparked.
They will be exhibiting watercolors on paper – and also on non-absorbent, non-tree-based papers called Yupo and TerraSkin. The paintings are depicting Rhode Island seascapes, landscapes and fauna. The show will also showcase functional stoneware sculptures reflecting the bounty of the sea.
Cynthia, Elinor and Susan are also art teachers who have taught in R.I. schools, and give workshops for local art organizations.
Spring Street Gallery member Karen Capuciati expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming show.
“We are very excited to share the beautiful work of these very talented women at Spring Street Gallery. It’s a thrill to create an opportunity for them to show together, and for Block Island to see something totally new,” she said.
The reception is open to the public and the exhibit runs through Thursday, Sept. 5.
