To the Editor,
We are very pleased to announce that the tenth Annual Fun Run co-sponsored by the Block Island Health Services and the National Alliance on Mental Illness-BI was successful. The participants, who ranged in age from 6 to 80 plus, enjoyed some great weather and a competitive environment. As with other island fundraising events, it was successful due to the contributions of many.
First, we would like to thank the many sponsors for the event: Gallery Padien, The Old Post Office Bagel Shop, The Beachead, Aldo’s, Ballard’s Oil Company, Block Island Sports Shop, Pond & Beyond Kayak, Kimberly’s, Block Island Oyster Bar & Grill, Sullivan Real Estate, Bethany’s Airport Diner, Block Island Pizza Pie Company, Ballard’s Inn & Restaurant, Salt Hair Shop, the Wave, Phillips Real Estate, North Light Fibers, Dead Eye Dick’s, Ballard Hall Sales Group, Red Bird Package Store, Elevation Studio, Diamond Blue Surf Shop, The Oar, Star Department Store, Yellow Kittens Tavern, The National Hotel, Koru Eco Spa, Glass Onion, William C. Young Family Foundation, and Outloud Audio. We encourage everyone to support these business establishments.
These events do not run themselves - there were many volunteers who contributed to the event by registering the racers, distributing refreshments, manning the north end water table, taking pictures, and helping with the logistics. As always, we appreciate those volunteers from both boards as well as other Block Islanders who gave so freely of their time - thank you. And, last but not least, congratulations to our very own Community Service Officer, Domenic Savastano, who finished first overall and Emma Mistele who was
the first female finisher.
In what often times feels like a very divided and out-of-control country, it’s nice that in the smallest state by land area in the United States and the smallest municipality by population in that state, we can work together to support our common community causes.
Thanks to all of you,
Jim Hinthorn, Race Director
