The following message was provided by Town Clerk Molly Fitzpatrick:

Individuals who are running for write-in campaigns need to register. They need to register with the Rhode Island Board of Elections, and if they don’t register with the state Board of Elections, their votes won’t get counted for the mail ballots.

According to the town’s website, “There are no candidates, or more seats than candidates, for the following offices and the positions will be elected by write-in votes. All write-in candidates should contact the Campaign Finance Department of the R.I. Board of Elections for the appropriate paperwork to file. Anyone wishing to be a candidate for office must be a registered voter in New Shoreham. Town employees may not hold elective office:

Assistant Moderator — Two-year term

Block Island Housing Board — Four-year term

School Committee — Four-year term

In-person early voting is now open at Town Hall from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Town Hall polling place will be open Monday, Nov. 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
