Martha T. Lombardi, 100

Fri, 03/03/2017 - 7:30am

Martha T. (Williams) Lombardi, 100 years of age, peacefully flew with her angels on Friday, Feb. 24, 2017.

Martha was born on Sept. 16, 1916, the daughter of Martin and Martha Williams and the widow of John Lombardi, who passed away in 1963. She was also pre-deceased by her two-year old daughter, Mary Jane; her brothers, Frank and Bill; and her sisters, Eve and Ann. Martha raised her six children in the Frog Hollow section of Hartford. She is survived by her daughter, Marti, and partner Larry Greenlee of The Villages, Florida.; and five sons: Jack and his wife Laverne of Anniston, Alabama; Tom and partner Sue Besaw of Newington; Bill and partner Mary Davis of Cromwell; Mike and his wife Candy of Hartford; Jim and partner Linda Kime of Farmington and Venice Florida. She leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

As her family grew older, Martha went to work for the Hartford National Bank and later for the State of Connecticut. She served years volunteering her time in many political arenas. That was where she met her friend and companion, the late Jerry Driscoll of West Hartford, whom she shared many happy years with. She had a loving passion for painting and writing poetry and, of course, the Boston Red Sox (even though the rest of her family were Yankee fans). She knew every player and hardly ever missed a game on TV.

One of her biggest pleasures was spending her birthdays with friends and family on Block Island, getting to be a co-pilot on many flyovers.

The family would like to express its deepest gratitude to all her caregivers at The Jefferson House in Newington, and The Retreat in Hartford, for treating her like family and making her happy and comfortable. Funeral procession was Tuesday, Feb. 28 at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home in West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
