Dave Donnelly, 76
David E. Donnelly, 76, formerly of North Kingstown, passed away on Tuesday morning, Oct. 23, 2018 at St. Antoine Residence, North Smithfield.
He was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth E. “Liz” (Mullaney) Donnelly. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Charles J. and Catherine T. (Kennedy) Donnelly.
Dave was a graduate of LaSalle Academy and Providence College. Upon graduation from PC, he served in the R.I. National Guard and active duty in the United States Army. He then joined his father in the family retail business, Donnelly’s of Rhode Island, and later, Donnelly’s School Apparel, where he was owner and operator until his retirement. Dave grew up sailing at the Edgewood Yacht Club. His love of boats and the ocean followed him into adulthood and he and Liz spent many summers boating with the kids. One day trip on the Donna Lee led them to their next great love, Block Island. Dave’s most memorable times were spent with family and friends at their Block Island home.
Dave was an avid fan of PC basketball and spent his first dates with Liz at the games. They passionately followed the Friars throughout their marriage. Together with Liz, his family was his first priority and Papa would do anything for his grandchildren. Dave was an active communicant for many years at St. Francis de Sales Parish, always available for set up, cooking and clean up duties for many church gatherings
