We are grateful for a grant from the Champlin Foundation that is helping to fund  storm window installation on the 3rd floor as well as the newly restored 1st floor windows. Work on these projects has begun and we are able to have all our windows now open with cross breezes in the West Gallery. We will also start the work funded by the  1772 Foundation/Preserve RI grant for restoration of the cupola.

We have recently updated the website to include the  new virtual exhibits on Block Island’s early history, the Old Harbor walking tour and interview by a descendant of the Manisseans.

We fully opened our doors on July 3rd with updated exhibits throughout the museum. On July 8th we celebrated together and shared stories with members of the local Manissean Tribal Council, Pokanoket elders and a Shinnicock wampum weaver. We hosted the Executive Director of the Tomaquag Museum, Loren Spears, who gave a talk on the team involved in annotating Roger William’s “Key into to the Language of America”. Signed copies are still available at the Museum Shop along with many new titles on a range of historical subjects. On July 7th, URI professor, Marcus Nevius gave a lecture on “New histories of Slavery in southern New England”.

We are now booking Guided Tours and off site historic Walking Tours.  In the meantime, please visit us on Instagram & Facebook — we have two separate pages, our “official” page is managed by our staff, the other, a membership page, where we invite folks to share photos and memories of Block Island.
