Common Ground Events On Friday Nights
It’s Oscar Month at Harbor Church. Come see three Academy Award-winning historical biographies.
- March 1: “Green Book” An African-American classical pianist tours the Deep South in the 1960s. Academy Award for Best Picture.
- March 8: “At Eternity’s Gate.” William Dafoe’s Academy Award-nominated portrayal of painter Vincent van Gogh.
- March 15 - Singer-songwriter Ed McGuirl in concert. Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with live music.
- March 22: “The Favourite” Lady Sarah governs 18th century England for a frail Queen Anne. Actor Olivia Colman won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as Queen Anne.
- March 29: Game night.
The events start at 6:30 p.m. with dinner, all at the Harbor Church.
NAMI B.I. family support group
Saturday, March 2. NAMI BI family support group meets in Island Free Library Room C, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Anyone with a close friend or family member who is affected by living with mental illness is welcome.
Bible Study Group At Harbor Church
The study group will be held for five Saturdays through March 2, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the church parlor. In this video-based, small group Bible study, participants will explore what kind of news is good to a culture that thinks it has rejected the Christian version. Please let Pastor Peter Preiser know if you are interested in attending so that he can have enough study guides available. You don’t have to attend every session to participate. Celebrate Women Poets
Sunday, March 3 at 4 p.m. at Island Bound Bookstore, celebrate the work of women poets. Speakers include: Lisa Starr reading the poetry of Mary Oliver, Nancy Greenaway reading the poetry of Sylvia Plath, Susan Matheke reading the poetry of Emily Dickinson, Lars Trodson reading the poetry of Dorothy Parker, Naomi Kerest reading the poetry of Maya Angelou, and Cindy Kelly reading the poetry of Elizabeth Bishop.

Ecumenical Choir Practice
Ecumenical Choir practice for the Easter Concert will be held every Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Harbor Church between now and Easter, which is Sunday, April 21.
Tuesdays at 12:30 p.m. at the Community Center.
Block Island Arts and Crafts Guild Scholarship
The Block Island Arts and Crafts Guild is accepting applications for the annual art scholarship awards. Graduating high school seniors may be eligible. The applications with portfolio should be submitted by May 3, 2019 to either Teri McCombe (401-742-5501) or art teacher Lisa Robb (401-466-5600). Scholarship criteria and applications are available in the Block Island School guidance office.
Helping Hands Food Pantry
The next Helping Hands Food Pantry will be Wednesday, March 13 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Harbor Church.
