A new collaborative that hopes to bring artists and craftspeople together has quietly popped its head up in the past week.

On Island Collaborative is offering the very first in what it hopes will eventually be a series of workshops offered in public spaces focusing on a variety of different crafts.

In a press release sent to The Block Island Times, the On Island Collaborative is “a newly formed non-profit that seeks to expand economic opportunities for island maker-entrepreneurs and micro-industries.”

The group has put together a board of directors that includes: Benjamin Martin - President; John Warfel - Vice President; Paige Gaffet - Secretary; Sue Black - Treasurer; and Christine Grele, Cameron Greenlee, Thea Monje, and Seth Draper. Helping the group design its logos and messaging is Josh Maldonado and Hannah Blackwood.

The first class the group is offering is on photoshopping, which will be taught by Robin Bell and held at the Island Free Library. The seminar will be held in two sessions, with attendance at the first session mandatory if anyone wants to sign up for the second. The classes are free and open to the public.
