When a small town suddenly balloons to more than 20,000 people almost overnight, and to have things go as smoothly as they did over the Fourth of July celebrations, is a testament to the network of volunteers and professionals alike who work tirelessly to keep this island train on track.
The island’s volunteer Emergency Medical Technicians, the firefighters, the staff at the Block Island Medical Center, the Highways Department, the New Shoreham Police Department, State Troopers, the members of the Harbors Department, and many others kept a watchful eye on innumerable moving parts to keep residents and guests safe.
This is not easy to do, and it’s exhausting. It is never too early, or too late, to say thank you to this amazing team of people. They work behind the scenes, they don’t ask for praise, but we are happy to honor them all here as the 2019 summer season begins
