To the Editor:
On Tuesday, Nov. 24, Sun Farm Oysters will be having its annual Thanksgiving oyster benefit for Block Island-based non-profits from 2 to 4 p.m. at Old Island Pub. A dozen oysters can be purchased for a donation of $5. We have just about finished sorting oysters for the year and we are asking that people limit their purchases to three dozen or less. This will allow us to have oysters all winter as it is not good for the oysters to sort them while they are hibernating (less than 46 degrees water temperature).
We are asking that people line up on the sidewalk toward Poor People’s Pub so six feet social distancing can be maintained. It is best to park across the street, if possible. Please bring a bag to put your oysters in. We will have two people packing up your oysters so the line should move quickly. For some, our selected day and time does not allow them to participate in the benefit. If that is your case, please ask a friend to pick up oysters for you, or email me, and we will set aside your order for pick up on the next day, Wednesday.
We ask that participating non-profits bring a donation container (with your name on it) to the parking lot at 1:45 p.m. and retrieve it at 4:30 p.m. A $50 prize will be given to the non-profit with the most “interesting” donation container. (Judge’s identity is anonymous.)
