Jean Ann (Holm) Valentine, 91, formerly of Center Road, Block Island, RI, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, March 11, 2021 in Southbury, CT. She was the beloved wife of George W. Valentine for 60 years. Born in West Haven, CT, daughter of the late Henry Holm and Elizabeth (MacKenzie) Holm, Jean grew up in West Haven, attended West Haven High School and Wheaton College. Jean later lived in France with her husband and young family while George served as an anesthesiologist in the U.S. Air Force. On her return she and the family moved back to Middlebury and Cheshire, Connecticut, and then retired to Block Island.

Her adult years were focused on family and her artwork. Jean was a loving mother to her five children and will be sorely missed by them. Besides the love for her family, she was passionate about her artwork. She was a long-time member of the Spring Street Gallery on Block Island, and an elected member of the Rhode Island Water Color Society, the Mystic Art Association, and the Wickford Art Association. Jean loved Block Island and it showed in her paintings, most of which were island scenes. Her work has been exhibited on the covers of two magazines, in corporate collections in Rhode Island and Connecticut and can be found in many homes and businesses throughout the island.

She leaves three sons and one daughter; James H. Valentine and wife Michelle of Southbury, CT, George F. Valentine of Newport, RI, Robert W. Valentine of Castine, ME, Sheryl L. Valentine of Falmouth, MA, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband George W. Valentine and daughter Patricia Ann Valentine Twickler.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Island Cemetery, Block Island. Immediately following the service there will be a celebration of life. Location to be announced, Covid19 regulations permitting. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to Block Island Health Services or Block Island Rescue Squad in her memory would be appreciated.
