LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Setting the tone, part two
To the Editor,
It was disappointing to hear the comment, “Block Island’s always been a party place,” spoken by our First Warden and broadcast on the Channel 12 news last week. Block Island has always been a fun place to visit, but it has so much more to offer. Beautiful beaches, miles of walking trails, clean water, awesome sailing, fishing, the Great Salt Pond, two historic lighthouses, wonderful people, and all free for the public to enjoy.
The Block Island Conservancy, formed to protect Rodman’s Hollow 50 years ago, through the dedication of many incredible volunteers, works to preserve and protect this very special place. The BIC and our conservation partners care for and promote the many green spaces open to Block Island’s residents and visitors. We are in the Nature Van, located at popular trailheads, we are at the Farmers Market, providing information on the many nature programs offered and assisting folks to find their next special place to explore.
I implore our Town Council, our Tourism Council and the island businesses to dispel the notion that Block Island is a “Party Place” and to embrace and promote the many wonderful features this great place has to offer.
