Block Island Walk to End Alzheimer's in memory of Peter Greenman
To the Editor,
This will be the first Block Island Walk to End Alzheimer's without founder Peter Greenman leading the way.
Peter, who for years took care of his wife Sandy with Alzheimer's, passed away from cancer after the 2021 Walk.
He never stopped fundraising for a cure, even while he was sick. And now his family is continuing the tradition.
On September 18, the extended Greenman clan will be on Block Island, raising money and walking to end the disease that is taking their mother.
Daughter Sarah says, "When my heart hurts, I can call a stranger on the Alzheimer's helpline, or anyone else whose parents have dementia and I am comforted, helping each other is essential. I will find joy in this new world. My father did. I promised him we would take care of Mom."
Their goal is $80K, and with the help of a $50K Roosa Family Foundation grant they are well on their way. They are hoping more than 100 walkers will join them on walk day.
