Sorority sisters from different colleges, they met through the sorority’s alumnae group in the Hartford area and became fast friends. Gladys earned a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering and now designs fuel cells. Stephanie interned with Niagara Bottling Co. in college and is now a quality manager at their water bottling plant in Connecticut. (She’s holding her company’s product, sold at the North Light gift shop.) The friends biked around Block Island on their first trip here, celebrating the tenth anniversary of Gladys arriving in the United States as an undergraduate student.
Port Washington foursome, 8/26:
Port Washington 4 08-26 ~1378
Left to right, Steven Baum and fiancée Dardana Geller, with Rachelle and Damon Gersh, all of Port Washington, Long Island, N.Y.: Steven and Dardana are planning a wedding in 2019 (they didn't say where). He had been to Block Island many times with his fishing buddies; this was her first visit. Their friends Rachelle and Damon invited the couple to accompany them to the island on their boat, the Rock Steady. The Gershes have visited here many times, and have an oar at The Oar to prove it. This time, Damon said, they were greeted at the Champlin's fuel dock by Kai, owner of Kai-Kai Sandals on Water Street, and made more new friends at the marina.
