Toni and Hank Lemoine, Port St. Lucie, Florida: Before retiring to Florida, the Lemoines both taught at the Block Island School. Toni was also an administrative assistant to the Town Manager. They've both worked at the N.Y. Mets' spring training complex in Port St. Lucie since moving there. This summer, they came back to Block Island to visit friends and see the sights — including the North Light.

Iacono & Wilbourne BRICK 08-02 ~1329

Rachel Wilbourne, originally from Hilton Head, S.C., and Ellis Iacono, Barrington, R.I.: Ellis found the brick his parents bought as a fundraiser for the North Light, in the apron on the building's north side. “My parents divorced when I was two,” he said. “This is one of the few artifacts with all three of our names on it.” Ellis has graduated from the University of R.I. and will start a Masters of Public Health program at Virginia Commonwealth University in the fall. Rachel will graduate from William and Mary with a bachelor's degree next year.

Gladys Anyena, born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya (left), and Stephanie Christel, originally from Pittsburgh, Penn. Sorority sisters from different colleges, they met through the sorority’s alumnae group in the Hartford area and became fast friends. Gladys earned a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering and now designs fuel cells. Stephanie interned with Niagara Bottling Co. in college and is now a quality manager at their water bottling plant in Connecticut. (She’s holding her company’s product, sold at the North Light gift shop.) The friends biked around Block Island on their first trip here, celebrating the tenth anniversary of Gladys arriving in the United States as an undergraduate student.

Port Washington foursome, 8/26:

Port Washington 4 08-26 ~1378

Left to right, Steven Baum and fiancée Dardana Geller, with Rachelle and Damon Gersh, all of Port Washington, Long Island, N.Y.: Steven and Dardana are planning a wedding in 2019 (they didn't say where). He had been to Block Island many times with his fishing buddies; this was her first visit. Their friends Rachelle and Damon invited the couple to accompany them to the island on their boat, the Rock Steady. The Gershes have visited here many times, and have an oar at The Oar to prove it. This time, Damon said, they were greeted at the Champlin's fuel dock by Kai, owner of Kai-Kai Sandals on Water Street, and made more new friends at the marina.
